Oshas developed Rig Safety Officer Course that aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding and knowledge of the following job functions of the Rig Safety Officer. These are the course’s scope and objectives. A Rig safety officer is typically a mechanical or a petroleum engineer who possesses a significant amount of drilling experience as well as a variety of safety certifications. He is aware of the challenges that are a natural part of the drilling process as well as how these obstacles can become hazards on the rig floor.
On an offshore drilling rig, the Rig Safety Officer acts as the facility manager’s representative in all matters pertaining to the rig’s safety. He offers training in safety that is based on the regulations and requirements of national safety agencies, such as OSHA in the United States and the Health and Safety Executive in the United Kingdom. In addition to this, he is responsible for ensuring that all contractors who come aboard the rig meet the safety standards of the drilling company and for providing ongoing safety education to the personnel of the rig, as is required by the policy of the drilling company. He keeps a record of the briefings and training that are given to new employees and contractors alike.
He is responsible for ensuring that workers at the drilling company comply with all of the safety standards and procedures established by the company. Continuous safety inspections, including inspections of the drilling operation, are carried out by him while he is on board the rig. He makes an effort to instil a culture of safety awareness among the crew members of the rig. In his capacity as the rig’s sanitarian, he is responsible for carrying out sanitation inspections in the living areas and the galley. These inspections ensure that the rig’s berthing areas are clean and that the galley staff adheres to the appropriate procedures for food preparation.
Employees having safety responsibilities in the oil and gas industry should be appropriately trained to ensure they have the requisite knowledge and technical skills to support safety managers and complete other activities as assigned by the employer. It is also critical for oil and gas safety specialists to stay up to date on industry-specific safety ideas in order to effectively lead staff.

Authorised Gas Testing (AGT) is a critical activity in the oil and gas industry that involves measuring and monitoring gas levels in confined spaces to ensure the safety of workers and the environment. To perform AGT, workers must undergo specialised training and acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to operate gas testing equipment and interpret gas readings.
OSHAS Level 3 Award in Oil and Gas Safety is a specialized training program focusing on safety measures and regulations within the oil and gas industry. This course aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to identify, assess, and mitigate safety risks in oil and gas operations.
The Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET) course is designed to provide offshore workers with essential safety training and emergency response skills. This comprehensive course prepares participants for the hazards and risks associated with working in the offshore oil and gas industry, ensuring they can respond effectively to emergencies. The BOSIET course includes practical and theoretical training in safety, survival, and emergency procedures specific to the offshore environment.
The OSHAS Offshore Oil and Gas Safety Course is designed to equip professionals in the offshore oil and gas sector with critical safety skills and knowledge specific to the industry’s unique challenges. The OSHA 48-Hour Oil and Gas Industry Safety Course is designed to enhance safety awareness and operational excellence within the high-risk oil and gas sector. This course covers critical safety standards, hazard recognition, and emergency response protocols tailored to the industry. Participants will gain the skills and knowledge required to maintain a safe work environment, comply with regulations, and mitigate risks in upstream, midstream, and downstream operations.
OSHAS Level 2 Award in Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Training is designed to provide individuals with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate SCBA in hazardous environments. The course focuses on the correct selection, usage, and maintenance of SCBA to ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations. Participants will learn how to conduct pre-use checks, don and doff the equipment correctly, and respond to emergency situations where respiratory protection is required.
